“The Harvest, Dancing and Singing Festival: Tradition, culinary experiences and the culture at the Domanjševci Homestead” 🧑‍🌾

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, the traditional event The Harvest, Dancing and Singing Festival was held at the Domanjševci Homestead.  This all-day event, which attracts many visitors every year, is known for its display of traditional hand-harvesting and the use of an old horse-powered threshing machine. The program is enriched by villagers and members of various societies by singing and dancing, which keeps the cultural heritage alive.

The Prekmurje Model Farm participated in the event again this year, where it offered visitors unique dishes and drinks related to local traditions and natural resources.  Mrs. Halmos prepared “red pancakes” with edible flowers filled with special jams such as rose and purple jam. In addition, she introduced visitors to the importance and benefits of using edible flowers in cuisine, and emphasized how these flowers contribute to a fuller culinary experience with their special taste and aesthetic value. At the event, the visitors also got a chance to taste local beers from the Őribird-sörbár pub. They offered light (wheat) and sour cherry beer tastings. They took care of the little ones with a fresh lavender drink prepared from locally grown lavender. The entire offer was carefully planned and included ingredients that are typical of the surroundings of the homestead, such as grain, lavender and flowers from the meadows.

The tasting was well received, and the event once again emphasized the importance of preserving and spreading culinary diversity and connecting with local culture. The Prekmurje Model Farm was pleased to participate in the event and wishes to continue this tradition.
