On Thursday, 1 February 2024, an interesting event took place at the dislocated unit of the Prekmurje Model Farm, entitled Distillation in the ethnographic house in Krplivnik.

Last year, we successfully carried out the project of converting the premises into a distillery and the purchase of a special pot still for the preparation of schnapps and spirits by Biterra d. o. o. In this part of Slovenia, where the Hungarian community still lives and actively works, there is a long tradition of distillation. To ensure that the tradition of preserving the art of distilling is not forgotten, we have purchased a special pot still. Our aim is to attract young people to this age-old tradition by showcasing it in the dislocated unit of the Prekmurje Model Farm. The event was organized by the Prekmurje Model Farm together with a master for the preparation of spirits, who also prepared a special tasting along with an expert explanation of the pot still’s capabilities. The event received a response beyond expectations, as a large number of people gathered and showed great interest in upgrading their knowledge of distillation. The event ended with the first mulled wine spirit. The model farm is working to ensure that the pot still for the distillation of schnapps will produce the first results for the general public as early as next season.
