The nettle food and local produce festival, which took place on April 3, 10 and 13, 2024, attracted many visitors. The event was divided into three parts. The first one was dedicated to a lecture on the healing effects of nettle entitled “Spring body cleansing”, which attracted many natural remedy lovers.
The second set was of a practical nature, where participants at the workshop “Preparation of medicinal preparations from nettle” learned about the different applications of this useful plant. The highlight of the festival was an all-day event, which combined culinary workshops for preparing nettle dishes, tasting dishes and drinks, and a market where local producers presented their products.
Among the culinary specialties, visitors were able to pamper themselves with dishes such as nettle soup, nettle spreads, nettle chips, pancakes with nettle, nettle pie, and bread with nettle. In addition, they enjoyed drinks such as nettle juice, nettle leaf tea, nettle beer and nettle smoothies. Local producers presented themselves at the market, offering fresh produce and products, allowing visitors to get acquainted with the rich culinary heritage of the region.
The festival, which was the first such event with such content, was held with the help of co-financing the Prekmurje Model Farm through a public call. Such events, which the Farm helps to organize, play a key role in promoting local crops, raising awareness about medicinal plants and strengthening the local community.
