ABOUT THE PROJECTThe first Model Farm in Slovenia

The area of the program, where people of the Hungarian national community live, has geographical characteristics of plains and hills with distinctive farming character. Despite the favorable natural characteristics, the number of agricultural holdings has been dropping in this area. Agriculture in this area is also facing the issues of aging population, emigration of the youth, lack of entrepreneurial initiative, lack of organization between the farmers and small size of agricultural holdings. That is why we want to facilitate growing and processing of local agricultural products with the operation of the model farm and by encouraging agriculture in the aforementioned program area, and consequently raise the supply and demand for local agricultural products.

It is important for the national community to preserve agricultural activity, create conditions for inclusion of the youth, increase employment possibilities in tourism, and preserve the population of the ethnically mixed area. Beside greater economic efficiency, preservation of cultural landscape with traditional agricultural activities, development of the countryside, better self-supply with food and general acceleration of agriculture development are also important.
