DISLOCATED UNITSFrom Pince to Hodoš

The dislocated units of the Prekmurje Model Farm represent a diverse range of activities and traditions enriching the area’s agricultural landscape. Each unit makes its unique contribution to the overall farm experience while preserving the local heritage and promoting sustainable practices.

Dislocated unit Krplivnik

The dislocated unit of the Prekmurje Model Farm is located in Krplivnik, a village in the municipality of Hodoš, in the far north-eastern part of the Pomurje region. This ethnographic house is of particular interest because of its historical connection with fruit processing, which has always been considered an important activity in the area. Main elements of this ethnographic house include items for distillation, which attest to the deep-rooted farming customs of the area.

Krplivnik is synonymous with the tradition of distillation of spirits, which goes back to the deep-rooted farming customs of this area. In 2023, in an effort to preserve this valuable tradition, the Prekmurje Model Farm arranged a special space in the outbuilding of the ethnographic house and equipped it with the purchase of a modern pot still, which combines modern technology with respect for the past. This is a modern pot still that can be digitally controlled and used to prepare various spirits.

The ethnographic house in Krplivnik is surrounded by the Fairy Garden – an orchard in which old indigenous fruit trees are planted. This area of Pomurje is renowned for its exceptionally rich number of high fruit trees, which are part of the local ecosystem and contribute to the biodiversity of the region. The tall fruit trees that can still be found in the area today played an important role in the past and are part of the area’s living heritage.

Distillation and spirits thus represent an important contribution to the main unit of the Prekmurje Model Farm in several ways. First, they preserve the tradition and cultural heritage of fruit processing in the region, which contributes to the recognition of the farm and the preservation of local culture. Secondly, with the purchase of a modern pot still, the farm adapts to modern trends and market needs, which enables the expansion of the offer and the attraction of different groups of visitors. Thirdly, the distillation is an additional source of income for the farm, as it allows the sale of high-quality spirits produced from locally grown fruit.

All this enhances the appeal of the Prekmurje Model Farm and its Krplivnik unit for visitors. It contributes to the preservation of tradition and culture while enabling economic growth and development.
