DISLOCATED UNITSFrom Pince to Hodoš

The dislocated units of the Prekmurje Model Farm represent a diverse range of activities and traditions enriching the area’s agricultural landscape. Each unit makes its unique contribution to the overall farm experience while preserving the local heritage and promoting sustainable practices.

Dislocated unit Motvarjevci

The dislocated unit of the Prekmurje Model Farm, called Alvarium, is located in the municipality of Moravske Toplice, in the bilingual village of Motvarjevci. This ethnographic house represents the heart of beekeeping at the Prekmurje Model Farm and is dedicated to the promotion of bees, beekeeping, and honey production. Alvarium makes a unique contribution to the overall farm experience and is key to preserving the local heritage and promoting sustainable practices.

Inside the Alvarium ethnographic house, visitors can discover various beekeeping items that demonstrate the rich tradition of beekeeping in Prekmurje. In the yard of the house, there is a beekeeping trail where visitors can learn about bees and beekeeping techniques.. A modern apiary with 12 hives, set up in 2023, stands in the orchard behind the house, which is planted with native fruit trees. In addition to producing honey, this apiary serves as a practical example of beekeeping for visitors.

The Prekmurje Model Farm invited the Prosenjakovci Bilingual Primary School’s art club to participate in the external decoration of the apiary. The students adorned the bee yard with traditional designs, carefully selecting motifs based on research into the history of the ethnographic house and its impact on the surroundings.

The importance of the dislocated Alvarium unit lies in connecting local farmers, schools and communities. The unit aims to promote local beekeeping and involves school-going youth in learning traditional crafts, encouraging them to become beekeepers. This contributes to the wider visibility of the farm and the promotion of local products, such as honey, and enables new possibilities in decision-making and selection for small local producers.

All of this creates a unique and educational experience for visitors and contributes to the preservation and promotion of beekeeping in Prekmurje.
