At the Model Farm in Prekmurje, each day brings a variety of tasks and activities. Our day begins at dawn, starting with the crucial task of tending to our animals. Our donkeys, Mangalica pigs, Krškopolje pigs, gray Podolian cattle, and horses eagerly await breakfast. We ensure the animals have access to fresh water and nutritious food, and we regularly check their health.

Once the morning animal care is finished, our activities change based on the season and current needs. During mowing season we prepare the tractor attachments for the job. Properly setting up these attachments is essential for smooth operation. We then move on to mowing the meadows and baling the grass. Each bale must be carefully shaped and stored to stay dry and suitable for feeding the animals throughout the year. In addition to these tasks, we take care of our herb garden, vegetable garden, and greenhouse, where we grow a variety of plants. Our farm also features an innovative aquaponics system, which supports the cultivation of fish and plants in a closed ecosystem—a crucial component of our sustainable farming practices. This year, we’re also working on our fields where we grow wheat, barley, and corn. We’ve added asparagus to our crop rotation as well. Most of the work is done by hand. Tasks such as weeding, hoeing, and plant health maintenance are essential parts of our daily routine. Our commitment to organic farming means we avoid pesticides and manage everything naturally.

Beyond the main farm, we operate dislocated units. At our Vinotoč Rožman location in Dolgovaške Gorice, we’ve planted grapevines. Maintaining the vineyard involves hoeing, mowing the grass, and tilling the soil. It’s a process that requires constant attention to produce high-quality grapes. As the day progresses, we shift our focus to additional maintenance tasks on the farm, such as repairing fences, maintaining agricultural equipment and machinery, and tidying up the surroundings. Regular inspections and repairs are vital to keeping our infrastructure in top shape and ensuring the farm runs smoothly. We also handle smaller tasks like cleaning the stables and checking food supplies to uphold high standards of hygiene and safety. Each team member plays a vital role in the farm’s success. Before leaving, we review the day’s accomplishments and plan for the next day’s activities. This approach helps us address any issues promptly and adjust our schedule to the farm’s needs.
