BLOGChildren and Their Connection with Animals and Nature

22. May, 2025

In a world increasingly dominated by screens and indoor activities, striving for outdoor learning environments is more crucial than ever. The connection with nature and animals not only enriches children’s educational experiences but also contributes to their physical and emotional well-being. The Importance of Outdoor Classrooms Educational paradigms are increasingly shifting towards dynamic and holistic approaches. Consequently, outdoor classrooms are becoming essential for fostering the connection between children, nature, and animals. These spaces promote active learning and exploration, discovery, and practical activities that cannot be conducted within a traditional classroom. Besides academic benefits, outdoor learning enhances social skills, reduces stress, and promotes physical health.

Interaction with Animals and Nature

Children’s interaction with animals and nature can have a positive impact on their development. From a young age, they learn empathy and responsibility. Studies have shown that such interactions can improve children’s cognitive functions and emotional intelligence. Children who spend more time outdoors are often more creative and have higher attention levels. Interaction with animals also fosters respect for living beings. By feeding, caring for, and learning about different animals, children develop patience and an understanding of the animal world. These experiences can significantly influence young people’s awareness of the world, potentially leading to a lasting sense of environmental stewardship.

Prekmurje Model Farm and Future Plans

At the Prekmurje Model Farm, we plan to introduce outdoor classrooms. Our goal is not only to teach agricultural practices but also to instill values of sustainability and ecological awareness. By directly involving children in farm activities and animal care, we aim to provide a unique learning experience that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. We are currently successfully collaborating with the local elementary school. The children helped us plant an herb garden, which was an important step toward practical learning. Incorporating outdoor classrooms and direct interaction with nature and animals are indispensable in shaping informed and environmentally conscious individuals. Outdoor education is an innovative approach that has the potential to redefine traditional schooling and make learning more engaging and profound for children.
